Celebrating Community Excellence – Community Awards 2024

We’re thrilled to announce the recipients of the Town’s Community Awards 2024!

Presented by our Town Mayor, Cllr Leeroy Scott, these remarkable individuals, and groups have left an indelible mark on our town, embodying the spirit of kindness, generosity, and dedication. Join us in honouring their outstanding contributions:

 **Group Organisation Award**: Woolmer Forest Timebank

“They have profoundly impacted the lives of numerous individuals within our community, and I wholeheartedly credit them with rescuing me from a challenging period in my life.”

 **Outstanding Adult Award**: Chime Carlin

Chime started the Karma Cafe (Thursdays) and Quiet Cafe (Fridays) to encourage members of the community that maybe struggling out into the community. She’ll see individuals on a one-to-one basis but also enables them to meet other people in the community, gets them out of the house and encourages new friendships. Everyone who comes to these cafe’s has nothing but praise for Chime and for some, this simple thing has been life changing.

**Outstanding Young Person (School Years 7-13)**: Will Sharps

Will Sharps is a talented musician and composer. He attends the Hampshire Youth County Orchestra and is an award holder for the Martin Read Foundation and is composing a piece for solo percussion, which will be premiered at a Royal College of Music concert. Most recently Will was elected to the UK Youth Parliament with his manifesto of commitments to working to improve the environment and the welfare of young people.

 **Outstanding Young Person (School Years 1-6)**: Verity Seignot-Griffiths

Verity is 6 years old and raised over £8,000 for various charities from riding 5km on her Shetland pony for the riding for disabled days after her 1st birthday, to walking 7k steps a day for a month to raise funds for chestnut tree children’s hospice. She has completed sponsored challenges over the last 5 years and always done them with a smile, and with coverage to our Facebook page @theponypalsfamily, spreading joy around the world!

Congratulations to all our winners! Your selflessness and commitment to our community make us proud.

The Town Mayor also presented a recognition award to Isabelle Lambert in the Young Person years 1-6 category.

Isabelle is in Year Six at St. Matthew’s. Each Year Six student is assigned as a buddy to a child in Rainbows -our reception class. Isabelle is assigned to a child who has significant needs. They need additional help to access the curriculum and participate in everyday tasks. Isabelle has been an absolute star this year supporting this child; helping them with lunch, playing outside with them and walking them to church, giving up her time.
