Town Mayor Christmas Message 2023

It has again been a great honour to serve you as Town Mayor and see our community flourish in a year which has still presented many challenges. We should celebrate this by looking at the highlights of 2023 and looking forward to 2024.

I was privileged to attend the unveiling of the King Charles III Coronation Sculpture in July. The sculpture was created by local artists in conjunction with REME. We also planted our Covid memorial tree at St Lucia Lodge in memory of those who lost their lives in the pandemic.

Whitehill and Bordon has special ties with REME and this was demonstrated at our Remembrance event on 11 November 2023.   This was particularly poignant, with 200 soldiers from the 4th Battalion REME from Tidworth marching through our town.   We should note that in 2024, Whitehill and Bordon will be marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

Your generosity was demonstrated at my Valentine’s Gala in February, which raised nearly £2,500 in aid of Bordon Food Bank and Chloe’s & Sophie’s Special Ears Fund.  I would like to offer huge thanks to all of the businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes.   Next year, my charities will be Dementia Friendly Whitehill and Bordon and I’m All Ears.   I look forward to inviting you to next year’s Charity event on 26 April 2024.  It promises to be another good evening, so watch this space!

Christmas is always a special time in our community, and this year we have added additional Christmas lights up Chalet Hill and around to the Old Dairy.   I am also really excited, to be judging the “Best Dressed House at Christmas” competition which after seeing everyone’s displays around the town, I think its going to be hard to choose a winner.

Your Councillors and Town Council staff work hard in providing a first class service to the residents making a positive impact where they can.  I would like to say a big thank you to them, and welcome the new councillors who joined us in January and May 2023.  I would also like to thank my cadet, Caitlin Sobey, who has been an amazing helper by my side, assisting me at several events.

But most importantly, I would like to thank the residents of Whitehill and Bordon, I am proud to represent you and I look forward to working on your behalf next year.  Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Cllr Leeroy Scott – Town Mayor
